Review of Wednesday 13's 'Calling All Corpses'

Blood, guts, horror movies and zombie sluts. Lathed with tongue-in-cheek lyrics straight out of EdgarWright's Shaun of the Dead, Wednesday 13's 'Calling All Corpses' is just plain fucking fun.  I'm going to just go ahead and see it; this is the funnest album of the year. With tracks titled like "Ghoul of My Dreams," "One Knife Stand," and "Bad at Being Human," one can only imagine the creativeness Wednesday 13 (Murderdolls, Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13, Bourbon Crow) put into his latest solo album filled with twisted puns and evil chuckles.

The highlight of the album is the spin-off of The Ramone's "I Wanna Be Sedated." As one would expect from Wednesday, his version is a little more morbid, suitably titled "I Wanna Be Cremated." It's hard enough to cover a song from a legendary band as it is, but to put your own personal twist on it and make it still kick ass is next to impossible.

Wednesday made the classic song rise from the dead, and then made it his zombie bitch. All in all, this album screams absolute darkness and fun rolled up in a ball of body parts and sprinkled with heavy dose of fun. If this album doesn't make you sing along and then make you stop and say, "What the fuck did I just say?!", then it's time to call the morgue, because you're dead.

Wednesday 13 works to raise money for Japan

Murderdolls vocalist Wednesday 13 is doing more than his share to do what he can to raise money for those affected by the earthquakes and resulting tsunamis last month in Japan. Wednesday and the Murderdolls were actually in Japan last month when the monstrous 8.9 earthquake shook Japan.
"That was the scariest day of my life without a doubt. It's almost beyond words to explain what we felt and witnessed. Japan is my favorite country to visit, tour and I’m just truly, truly saddened by this tragedy," Wednesday said about that now notorious disaster.
Wednesday has put up 5 auctions on E-bay for custom prints of himself from on tour.  Each of which will be signed individually by Wednesday and individually numbered, as well as contain a unique song title on the back. All profits from the sale of these will go directly to Save the Children, "the leading independent organization creating lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world." The organizations current goal of $5 million is to launch longer-term recovery for children affected by the earthquake and resulting fallout. (Click here to bid. Bidding ends Friday, April 8th)

Wednesday 13 didn't stop there. He has been working on a personal project of remixing 5 songs from his "Skeletons" album. So to help even more he will donate a portion of all sales and donate to the American Red Cross. Now that's rock n' roll with a conscience.

Interview with Wednesday 13 of the Murderdolls

Women And Children LastAfter an eight-year hiatus, Wednesday 13 and Joey Jordison have resurrected their brilliantly twisted concoction, the Murderdolls. They have pumped life back into the undead with their latest album Women and Children Last and are currently wreaking havoc around the country on the Halloween Hootenanny tour, along side the Godfather of shock rock, Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie. I sat down with Wednesday 13 to talk about the new record and his new direction he took for writing it.

Aaron Manogue: Were you guys pretty excited to get back out on tour?

Murderdolls - Women and Children Last Review

Imagine yourself stuck in the middle of a fiery hell on earth. The zombie apocalypse is upon us and the world has lost all its order. Your friends and family are no where to be found, so you can only assume they’re one of the infected thousands that are chasing you, trying to make you into their next delectable treat. There is no way out. There is no hope. And you love every minute of it. This, in a rotten nutshell, is exactly the type of twisted, guilty pleasure that Murderdolls brings to you in their latest release Women and Children Last.

The Death Valley Superstars kick your ass from the hellish opening “Chapel of Blood” to the appropriately titled closer “Hello, Goodbye, Die”, and you find yourself asking the infamous question, “Thank you sir, may I have another?” As if the title didn’t raise a big enough red flag, screaming at you to run and hide, you can’t help but find yourself listening to every last catchy riff, every last dark lyric, every inch of musical ass kicking packed inside Women and Children Last.
