Seether Continues Their Dominance on the Rock Charts

Only Artist With 2 Songs At The Top Of The Active Rock Chart With “Tonight” And The Most Played Single Of The Year To Date “Country Song”

South African rockers Seether are proving to be juggernauts in the United States as they continue to dominate the radio airwaves. Currently, the band has two singles from their latest Wind-Up Records release, Holding Onto Strings Better Left To Fray, sitting in the Top 15 on the Active Rock chart and is the only artist to hold that distinction. The debut single, “Country Song,” is hovering at #9 this week after spending 11 weeks in the #1 spot which is the longest reign at #1 for any single this year so far. It is also the most spun Active Rock record of 2011 to date. “Country Song” is the fourth #1 single of the band’s career at Active Rock following in the footsteps of “Fake It” (Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces) which was #1 for 13 weeks, “Remedy” (Karma and Effect) which held the top spot for 11 weeks and “Fine Again” (Disclaimer) which was the group’s first ever #1 hit.

The follow-up single, “Tonight,” is making a run to the top of the chart to pick up where “Country Song” left off. It is #14 with a bullet after only 4 weeks since its release to radio. Holding Onto Strings Better Left To Fray was released in May and debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and is the band’s highest album premier to date.

Interview with Shaun Morgan of Seether

The melodic-yet-heavy rock n' rollers that are Seether are back on the road promoting their latest album "Holding onto Strings Better Left to Fray". We caught up with lead man Shaun Morgan to talk about their latest number one single "Country Song," the upcoming record, working with renowned producer Brendan O'Brien and more.

Aaron Manogue: Tell me about your upcoming album "Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray."
Shaun Morgan: It's basically a culmination of 3 years worth of writing that represents the best of the 35-40 songs that we ended up writing for this album. It started out as a 10-track album, which grew to a 12-track album, and it's something we're really proud of.

Manogue: Can fans expect the same Seether sound and feel to the upcoming album or did you go in a different direction?
Shaun: I think every album we do something a little different, so people who know the band will know that there will be some interesting stuff. We don't want ourselves, or our audience, to grow bored with the music we create.

Manogue: What are you most proud of personally in this album?
Shaun: I'm proud of the whole album. There really isn't any one particular aspect of the album that makes me more or less proud than another. I really believe that we have created a solid rock album and that is all I set out to do.

Manogue: "Country Song" is your fifth single to go number one in the band’s career. What does that mean to you and the band to have such continued success over your careers?
Shaun: Obviously we are extremely happy that we can still write music that we enjoy, and that people want to listen to. After 10 years that seems surreal, but I know how hard we work on each album, and how satisfying it is when that work pays off. It's really incredible.

Manogue: What was it like working with Brendan O'Brien as producer (Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, and more)?
Shaun: Brendan is a world-class producer, who worked with us to help us write the best album we possibly could. He's a band's producer, in that he works with a band, and not the band working for the producer. We really enjoyed working with him, and we feel we have found the right producer for this band.

Manogue: Are you excited to get back out on the road and promote the new album?
Shaun: Of course we are, touring is what this band loves to do. The only way to take this music to the fans is to hit the road and play every city we can. Thank you for the continued support! See you out on the road.
